Jury Duty
The Grapevine Municipal Court conducts jury trials for traffic, non-traffic, and city ordinance violations. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, your jury service will very likely be for only the date for which you were summoned.
Jurors must be both a resident of Grapevine and a United States citizen to serve with the Grapevine Municipal Court. Jurors must also be at least 18 years of age, be able to read, write and communicate in English, and be of sound mind.

You cannot serve on a jury if any of the following apply:
- You have been convicted of a felony or of any type of theft (unless rights have been restored);
- You are now on probation or deferred adjudication for a felony or for any type of theft;
- You are now under indictment for a felony or are now under criminal charges for any type of theft.
You may be entitled to be excused from jury duty if you:
- Are over 70 years of age;
- Have custody of a child younger than 12, who would be left without adequate supervision during business hours if the person was required to serve on a jury;
- Are a student of a public or private secondary school, or a person enrolled and in attendance at an institution of higher education;
- Are a member of the United States military forces serving on active duty and deployed to a location away from your home station and out of your county of residence;
- Are the caretaker of a person who is unable to care for themselves (this exemption does not apply to health care workers);
- Can show a physical or mental impairment or an inability to comprehend or to communicate in English;
- Are an officer or an employee of the Senate, the House of Representatives, or any department, commission, board, office, or other agency in the legislative branch of state government;
- You have served as a juror in this county within the last 3 years.
NOTE: These are the only legally valid exemptions. Work related excuses are not legal exemptions.
To claim a legal exemption from jury service please contact the Court immediately upon receiving your summons.
Dress code is business casual. All persons entering the courtroom should be dressed in clothing reasonably befitting the dignity and solemnity of the courtroom proceedings. For example: no shorts, pajamas, short skirts, excessively tight or baggy clothing, low-cut blouses, tank-tops, clothing that is dirty, torn, or ragged, flip flops, ball caps, athletic clothing, or pants worn below the waist.
