Multifamily Short-term Rentals (MSTR’s)
On January 16, 2024, the City Council passed Ordinance 2024-007, which amended the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance to allow multifamily short-term rentals in the “R-MF”, Multifamily District and "R-MF-2", Residential Multifamily 2 District. However, this is subject to approval of a conditional use request by the City Council under certain numeric and geographic conditions and limitations that are detailed in Section 21, Multifamily Short-term Rentals. Please note that single-family short-term rentals are prohibited.
If you're the owner or authorized agent of a multifamily development and would like to utilize some of your development’s units for short-term rental purposes, the first step is to request a pre-application meeting with the Planning Services Department to discuss the requirements of the conditional use request and permitting process. Please email a concept plan and narrative to planning@grapevinetexas.gov to schedule this meeting.
After receiving approval for the conditional use request by the City Council, you or your authorized agent can apply for a multifamily short-term rental permit with the Planning Services Department. All units will be inspected to ensure compliance with the city ordinance conditions and limitations. Upon successful completion of the inspection, the short-term rental permit will be approved, and a certificate will be issued to the owner or their agent.
