[ARCHIVED] A Victim's Perspective

October is recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the Grapevine Police Department is preparing to host an upcoming event dedicated to raising awareness and supporting survivors in the community.

Grapevine Police Victim Services will be putting on a special "In Her Shoes" activity for the public. "In Her Shoes" is a scenario-based learning activity where participants experience what a victim of domestic violence undergoes when trying to leave a relationship. The goal is to understand the hardships and barriers and why someone “doesn’t just leave”. Each person will get a character card and then must go through how to escape/get out in order to understand what barriers are in place and build compassion for those experiencing violence. The Victim Services team is proud to host this evening of learning, community, and awareness on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.

The event will also feature a variety of elements designed to enhance each participant's experience and involvement. A complimentary dinner will be provided, allowing participants to enjoy a meal while engaging in meaningful discussions. Various partner agencies will be on-site to showcase their valuable resources and support services. This interaction will also offer insights into how people can contribute to preventing violence and supporting those who have been affected.

Attendees additionally will have the chance to obtain exclusive Grapevine Police Department Domestic Violence Awareness merchandise to help raise awareness and generate support for this critical cause.

Event Details:

  • Date: Tuesday, October 29, 2024
  • Time: 6:00-8:30pm
  • Location: Grapevine REC Center Stewart Hall

Participants must sign up by October 15 using this link.

The Grapevine Police Department thanks the entire community for supporting this cause and looks forward to helping others make a meaningful difference to those in need.
