National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week 2024

April 14-20, 2024 is recognized across the nation as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. 

Telecommunicator Week Proclamation at Grapevine City Council meetingGrapevine Mayor William D. Tate issued a proclamation for the week in celebration and gratitude of the work and dedication seen in the Grapevine Police Emergency Communications Specialists, commonly known as Dispatchers. Emergency Communications Specialists are the true first responders, and often the calming voice at the end of the line when you need help.

These selfless women and men work during holidays, birthdays and around the clock to ensure the safety of the Grapevine community. They are able to provide life-saving aid over the phone, and have been recognized for saving multiple lives through CPR instructions.

Emergency Communications Specialists ensure the safety of police and fire personnel, as well as the general public. In April, and throughout the year, we thank them for their service. They are our headset heroes. 

The Proclamation reads as follows:

 

WHEREAS, emergencies can occur at anytime that require police, fire or emergency medical services; and

WHEREAS, when an emergency occurs the prompt response of police officers, firefighters and paramedics is critical to the protection of life and preservation of property; and

WHEREAS, the safety of our police officers, firefighters, and paramedics is dependent upon the quality and accuracy of information obtained from citizens who call the Grapevine Emergency Communications Center; and

WHEREAS, Public Safety Telecommunicators, are the first and most critical contact our citizens have with emergency services; and ensure field responders safety in the course of their duties; and 

WHEREAS, Public Safety Telecommunicators, are a vital link for our police officers and firefighters by monitoring their activities by radio, providing them information and ensuring their safety; and

WHEREAS, Public Safety Telecommunicators in Grapevine have contributed substantially to the apprehension of criminals, suppression of fires and treatment of patients; and 

WHEREAS, Every Telecommunicator has exhibited compassion, understanding, and professionalism during the performance of their job this past year.  

NOW, THEREFORE I, William D. Tate, Mayor of Grapevine, Texas, do hereby proclaim the week of April 14 - April 20, 2024, as 

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in honor of the men and women whose diligence and professionalism keep our city and citizens safe.
