Approaching the holiday season, Grapevine police officers often reflect on the magic and joy of serving in the Christmas Capital of Texas.
Officer RJ Hudson, who is serving as a School Resource Officer at Grapevine Middle School, was recently getting to know some of the students and learned that they were walking to and from home, including for extracurricular activities.
SRO Hudson thought bicycles would help them get home faster to avoid traveling in the dark. He reached out to the founder of Spokes4Hope, a nonprofit that provides bicycles to children in need. Spokes4Hope instantly agreed to donate the bikes and helmets, but in order to get them to students quickly, they had to be picked up in another city.
Members of the Grapevine Police Department Volunteers In Police Service (VIPS) offered to drive out of town to pick up the bicycles and bring them to GMS. Officer Hudson worked closely with school personnel to arrange a special bicycle reveal for each child and ensure the helmets fit properly.
The Grapevine Police Department thanks all who played a role in making this happen for some deserving students. The community support we see each days keeps us fulfilled year-round as we work to keep everyone safe.
