Whether you're an experienced maker or just curious about 3D printing, we have everything you need to bring your projects to life. Library cardholders can place 3D print orders using our two high-quality printers: the Ultimaker S5, perfect for larger and more complex prints, and the Ultimaker S3, ideal for detailed and precise creations. Ready to start your 3D printing journey? Visit the Create It space or contact our staff to learn more! What is 3D printing?3D printing lets you bring digital creations to life by turning them into physical objects. You can design your own models using software like Tinkercad (featured below) or explore thousands of ready-made designs on websites like Thingiverse. With 3D scanning, you can even digitize real-life objects to create replicas that can be printed. While scanning works well for many objects, small, detailed, or reflective items may present challenges. Contact Create It staff to learn more about these limitations and how we can help. Below are some great resources to dive deeper into the world of 3D printing. |
Resources:
- Fusion 360 and Tinkercad
- This CAD software is simple and accessible for anybody interested in making objects for 3D printing. The software allows you to create and edit 3D model objects and export them for print.
- Cura
- This is the software used by our 3D printer. Cura is called a "slicing software" - it takes a 3D model and creates the slices needed for a 3D printer. You can use the software to get price estimates and better understand the size and details of your print.
- Thingiverse
- One of the most popular websites in 3D printing, Thingiverse has over a million and a half free models created and shared by the community. Their selection is diverse and includes everything from practical tools, toys, and unique sculptures.
