Weekend Safety Patrol on Grapevine Lake: Your Safety Is Our Priority
Each weekend, the Grapevine Fire Department's fire boat, in partnership with a Grapevine Police officer, actively patrols Grapevine Lake to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone on the water. This joint presence enhances safety enforcement and allows for quicker response in the event of emergencies.

We want to remind all boaters and lake users of the critical importance of water safety, and that safety begins with preparation. Everyone on the water must wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket. Each watercraft must be equipped with essential safety items, including life jackets for every passenger, a fire extinguisher, an emergency whistle or horn, proper lighting, and sufficient fuel. These are not just suggestions—they are critical requirements to keep you and your loved ones safe.

If you were born on or after September 1, 1993, and plan to operate a personal watercraft, motorboat over 15 hp, or sailboat over 14 feet, you must be certified. See the WATER SAFETY ACT at bit.ly/453SCtQ for details. Visit Texas Parks and Wildlife Boater Education at bit.ly/3H1AsBa for full details regarding the steps to acquire your boating certification.  Operators should remain constantly aware of their surroundings. It is vital to stay aware of your surroundings - maintaining safe distances from other vessels, observing designated swimming areas, and steering clear of the shoreline and restricted zones, and always operate at safe speeds. If alcohol is part of your outing, please remember water and alcohol are a dangerous combination. Impairment increases the risk of accidents and slows reaction times - potentially with tragic results.

Above all, always wear a life jacket. It is the most effective life-saving tool in any water emergency. Our fire boat crew and first responders will be patrolling every weekend to promote safety, respond to incidents, and educate the public. They are on-site to help—but your vigilance and responsibility make the biggest difference. We encourage everyone to do their part in keeping Grapevine Lake a safe destination for families, friends, and outdoor enthusiasts.
