IN THE NEWS

In Memoriam of Former Grapevine Fire Chief Powers
Recently, former Grapevine Fire Chief Bill Powers passed away. Throughout his lifetime, Chief Powers made a lasting impression on the Grapevine Fire Department and the entire community. Chief Powers began his service to the citizens of Grapevine in 1955 as a volunteer firefighter after serving in the US Army during the Korean War. According to City of Grapevine records, he became a career firefighter in 1973 and was promoted to Fire Marshal in 1979, eventually succeeding Chief Jake Greener as the Chief of Department in 1984. During his tenure as Chief, the department grew to 80 personnel, with four stations and a fifth under construction. Chief Powers was innovative and was instrumental in bringing paramedics to Grapevine Fire in 1986. Additionally, he served as an officer in the Tarrant County Arson Squad, the Tarrant County Firefighters Association, and the North Texas Fire Chiefs Association. Chief Powers retired in 1999 and continued to support the department he loved for many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Powers Family.
