[ARCHIVED] Nextdoor Helps Find Stolen Motorcycle

On February 1, 2021, Senior Officer Dale Roath posted a Nextdoor article about a rise in stolen motorcycles, and how owners can protect their property. Thanks to an observant neighbors on the app - officers were able to recover one of the stolen motorcycles the following day, including evidence for a follow-up investigation. One man's observation and tip is a great reminder that "if you see something, say something". Please note - social media is NOT the way to report crime, as it is not monitored 24/7.

There are two primary ways to report suspicious activity: emergency (911) and non-emergency (817.410.8127). 911 is best used when a person’s health or safety is in immediate danger. It is also frequently used if a crime is happening in your presence. The non-emergency number is best used to report less time-sensitive issues that require police assistance. This frequently includes suspicious behavior.

When calling dispatch, be prepared to provide as much information as possible. Descriptions of people, clothing, vehicles, license plates, accurate locations and last known direction of travel are all factors that can greatly assist responding officers. Also, be prepared to articulate why you feel the observed behavior is not normal. Remember, calls can be anonymous if you wish.
