We take pet identification seriously at Grapevine Animal Services. After all, animals with identification will make it home more often and sooner than animals left without ID. We know from experience that very few cats that enter the shelter ever return to their owner if they DO NOT have a microchip. With that in mind, we celebrated National Pet Identification Week with a special price on microchips ($5). Anyone and everyone was welcome. During the week of April 16 through April 20, 2018, staff happily provided this effective form of pet identification to 87 animals. That means that 78 dogs and 9 cats will have a leg up in getting back home to their loving family. In addition to microchipping the pets, we registered all of the owner and animal information so that the process was quick and easy for owners.
The good news is that it is not too late for you to come see us. We still offer microchips during business hours at the shelter for our normal price of $20.
Need more convincing? A study published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, including 53 animal shelters across the U.S., confirmed the high rate of return of microchipped dogs and cats to their families, and the importance of microchip registration. From the study:
